Studio, ABC and Pointe Work
Back to the studio teaching children’s lessons this week and wow what a week it has been! Last Tuesday I had quite a shock as I started off with 10 very excited 4-year-olds. Unlike on Zoom there isn’t a mute button in the studio so I had forgotten how much the children enjoy telling me stories about how they can count to 100, do their ABC and jump really high on their trampoline!
As well as teaching little ballerinas it was also great to see my older dancers working hard in their brand-new Progressing Ballet Technique class. This class uses a big exercise ball to support and strengthen the body for general ballet practice and pointe work. The excitement running through the class as soon as I mentioned pointe work was great to see. However, I spent quite a bit of time managing expectations as all young dancers have a long road of training ahead of them before any pointe shoes appear!
I finished off the week with a video call to a fellow RAD teacher and good friend of mine who lives in India. We met when we did our ballet teacher training together and this was the first time, I had spoken to her since. It was great to spend time sharing tips of good practice and I can’t wait to work together again soon.
